di Italiano come Lingua Straniera) exam. CILS is an officially
recognized qualification that declares the degree of competence in
Italian as a foreign language. It uses a system of six levels of
linguistic proficiency proposed by the Common European Framework
of Reference (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.
The
certification of each level affirms an adequate ability to
communicate for specific social, professional, and scholastic
contexts. The CILS is useful for:
-Use in the business world
-Italian teaching
-Enrollment in an Italian university
and for any other circumstance in which a formally attested level
of Italian comprehension is required.
The CILS certification is awarded by the Università per Stranieri
di Siena, and is recognized by the Italian Government through an
agreement with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Throughout the CILS intensive preparation course, students have
the opportunity to test their Italian proficiency. This is a 9
week course (twice a week, 5 hours per week).
The CILS exam takes place in June and December at the Italian
Cultural Institute of Chicago. In 2010, 84% of the Italidea
students that completed the CILS intensive preparatory course
